Liquid Solar Covers - A Big Hit in South Carolina
Liquid Solar Covers - A Big Hit in South Carolina

Covers CoverType AvgTemp AvgTemp MaxTemp LossOvernight Net It is no secret that a pool cover will help save energy in the form of heat loss.  The hard cover is where most people migrate when looking for a solution for heat loss & water loss.  The hard cover is difficult to install and remove each time the pool is used.  A reel for the cover makes the task a little easier but what do you do with the hideous reel & rolled up cover when using the pool?

A really nice alternative to the hard cover is a liquid solar cover.  This is an alcohol based liquid that is dispensed into the pool.  This chemical is a one molecule thick surfactant that reduces both water evaporative loss and thus heat loss.  Flexible Solutions manufactures two products for pools, the Ecosavr targeted for residential pools, and the Heatsavr for commercial and residential pools wanting an auto feed system.  The Ecosavr comes in the form of a fish and the pool operator snips the fin of the fish and tosses it in pool.  It lasts about one month.  The Heatsavr pumps the liquid into the water with an automatic feed pump fed from a 1 gallon jug of the liquid.  It takes about 1 once of liquid per 400 sq feet of pool surface to be effective.  Product can be ordered from Flexible Solutions direct, click on the link:

A recent test of heat loss conducted by the PPOA (Professional Pool Operators of America) resulted in the chart below.  The product was graded an A- by the association.  Pool operators working with in door swimming pools, know what the humidity does to electronics and sensitive equipment.  When evaporative loss is arrested, so is the humidity.

In summary, the Flexible Solutions product is not only Eco friendly but achieves a high level of cost savings to the pool owner.
